Beginning of my Pentesting Journey

Growing up I’ve always had a love for computers but really getting into Software Programming or Hacking was always a problem because by the time I started to understand how computers really work , getting a laptop or computer with enough processing power was an issue coupled with the lack of an internet connection to watch relevant Youtube channels and understand the power of cloud computing and how to leverage it. My love for computers however prevailed when I came across a Cybersecurity Challenge through a university blog and pursued the challenge right through to the end, taking away from it opportunities and growth in many aspects.

Past aside, I no longer have an excuse as to what I can’t do but rather I have the power of the internet focused on what I can do. I decided at the beginning of this month that pentesting is the career path I want to follow and I want to document it through this blog , as well as write about the new things I learn about it just to make them stick as well as sharpen my writing skills for Report Documentation in the future.

Beginning of the year I removed Windows from my laptop and installed Ubuntu just to practice getting familiar with Linux and the terminal , because of work, on my new laptop I have to run Windows so all my hacktivities are done through Oracle’s VirtualBox.

I bought a wireless adapter recently and getting the right drivers for it has been quiet the hassle but I’ve only managed to get into monitor mode and tried to test it to see if packet injection works and it returned no APs found, I still have more reading and learning to do. I’ve joined the TryHackMe platform , a discord server from South Africa called Hack South which is very resourceful , I recommend it to all South Africans into Information Security.

I feel very positive about the journey and its my goal in life to see this all the way through !
